We have all heard of "natural highs" and each of us has our own ways of obtaining them whether it be a warm bath after a long day at work, crawling into a bed of fresh from the dryer, cleaned sheets, dancing barefoot in the rain with the love of our life, a cup of hot cocoa on a cold rainy day, fast cars, or simply a few moments of silence. While many of these, as well as many others, apply to me, nothing can compare to the natural high I get from being around my family. Yes, that encompasses the entire family; brothers, sisters, moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, cousins and so on.... However, for the purposes of this post, I am referring to my "little" family. My two most favorite people in the world :)
Seeing Emma grow day by day, minute by minute really, is truly amazing. She has brought a love to us that we never could have imagined. She has been such an easy baby and brings nothing but joy to our lives. Yes, life is much more hectic and our worlds have changed dramatically BUT for the better and we couldn't imagine it any other way. Matt is such an amazing Daddy and continues to impress me with his love for her and his support for us as a family. I always knew he'd be a great Daddy, but seeing him in action is beyond what I pictured. Knowing that I get to come home to these two very special people, my little family, every day makes each day a blessing. And today being Friday, as you can imagine, I am really feeling the "high"! We get to spend the next 2 1/2 days together and discover more of Emma's new developments.....
As for recent, Emma decided to roll over for the first time from her back to her front on Monday for our friend/babysitter Yvette (aka Auntie Pokie Jo). We have yet to see it from Emma ourselves, although we did see the video recording of it. She struggled toward the end to get her right arm out from under her but, she did roll, no doubt about that. Needless to say I have been trying so hard to get her to do it for us at home but just as she is camera shy, and apparently just shy in general because she refused to talk for Grammie and Grand-faaja, she is being stubborn and won't roll for us! :( It will happen soon though. She starts to and gets pretty close to doing it but then stops.
She has a really strong upper body. If she is laying on her back, sometimes I look at her and it looks like she is trying to do little baby crunches. She is attempting to lift her head up to sit up! It's so cute because you can see the determination in her face. Then of course, I take her arms and help her sit up and she is on cloud nine! That doesn't last long though before she wants to stand up. We finally just bought her a jumper when she was approaching 3 months so she could "stand" and bounce without killing my arm muscles! haha she was a little too short for the jumper so I put a pillow under her feet and she jumps/sways like crazy! She loves it.
She has even started "kissing" me. I am constantly kissing her cheeks, her forehead, giving her eskimo kisses, butterfly kisses, you name it. Daddy too. I mean Daddy does it to Emma too... Well just last week, as I would go in to kiss her cheek, she would open her mouth and press it to my cheek. Initially I thought she was looking for something to suck on, as she tends to do all the time, but as I turned my cheek to press it against her lips she just left them there. So now, whenever I give her kisses, I ask her if I can get kisses back and I put my cheek to her mouth, she opens it and "kisses" me! I always pull back and say "awwww! Thanks baby girl!" and she just smiles and kicks in excitement. Really? Who wouldn't get a high from that???
I think pretty soon she'll start laughing too. She starts to every once in a while but soon we'll hear that contagious baby laugh coming from her. Daddy needs to continue with his quirky humor and get her going ;)
So many things to look forward to, and so many things to embrace and be grateful for today. Everyone always asks me "How's motherhood"......my response every time, "I LOVE IT!!!" I couldn't be happier. It's almost impossible to go through a day without feeling truly blessed and without getting the high from knowing how lucky I am and from watching our daughter grow. I love my little family <3
